In your opinion, would an SSRI or an SNRI work better for someone who has generalized anxiety disorder, depression and OCD. Any helps is greatly appreciated.
I’m not a doctor, but I have read a lot about this, having mental problems myself. Anyway, SSRI’s help with the seratonin production in your brain, which would help tremendously with different kinds of depression as it is thought that a seratonin defienciency can lead to depression. As far as OCD goes, it’s supposed to help with the obsessional part of the disease better than any other type of anti-depressant. They are supposed to help the anxiety for OCD sufferers quite a bit as well, which is not always the case with people who take them that do not have OCD and just have any other anxiety disorder and depression. Just google "OCD and SSRI’s" that’s what I did.
No Rhodes meds suck

PLEASE READ: while being treated for GAD , depression, and social anxiety I tried many different meds. BE CAREFUL! One important consideration is the side effects and the withdrawel symptoms. Gaining weight and loss of sexual drive are most common side effects. What they didn’t tell me was how horrible the withdrawls could be. I experience "brain-zaps" (extreme shooting pain), irratic heart rythyms, and severe vertigo for over 6 moths while trying to "wean" off my meds. I finally found homeopathic methods to help. I realize not everyone experiences tthe horrible symptoms I did, but I would cartainly do tons of reserch before EVER going on another script for these issues again. I wish you the best of luck. Don’t lets these classification determine you as they did me. I feel like since I quit taking all the scripts I can actually see clearer and focus better. My hubby noticed too.

IN reagards to the answerer who said weaning off can be a problem – SNRI’s all come in capsules, I believe, and you can’t split them because the little pellets inside are caustic or something. Most if not all SSRI’s, you can get in tablets, so you can wean off them easier. It is really awful getting off Cymbalta, for example, and the smallest dose available isn’t small enough. Pretty irresponsible of the drug company, imo. Both groups of meds cause nearly total sexual dysfunction for a majority of people, so if you value your sex life, try harder to get better thru therapy, or try drugs besides SSRIs and SSNIs. Not everyone gets that side effect, though. But more than half do. A recent study found effexor (SSNI, I believe) and zoloft to be most effective and lowest discontinuation rate, on average, but everyone is genetically different, and it is totally a trial and error process. If you have other family members on meds, ask what works for them & what didn’t work, and give that info to the doctor. Chances are good that you will react the same.
